Internet Speed and Good Data Cables
Ask anyone who surfs the web and they’ll tell you that internet speed is an important factor in deciding which provider to choose for this service. The faster the speed, the better the infrastructure and data cables need to be for uploading online content. For Sunshine Coast residents, understanding data cables and Structured Cabling in relation to what internet speed works for them, requires a little understanding of how it all works.
What is Sunshine Coast Internet Speed?
You can see the speed of the internet when you download webpages to your computer, laptop, or mobile device. The same is true when you upload photos, files, or video from your computer or device to the internet. The more megabits (Mbps), the faster the internet speed will be.
When comparing different internet plans, the more Mbps, the faster the uploading and downloading speeds. However, the plans will cost more the faster you want the internet to be. The ACCC has brought about evening speeds which helps inform consumers about the actual speed needed for the internet to work properly for your needs. What follows are the four basic plans of evening internet speed as provided by NBN broadband for the Sunshine Coast.
- Basic: 12/1 Mbps
- Standard: 25/5 Mbps
- Standard Plus: 50/20 Mbps
- Premium: 100/40 Mbps
Remember that the speed listed is not considered the maximum but is rather the typical internet speed during the high usage hours of the evening. By looking at the different plans, you can better understand what speed works best for you and your computer network at the price it is being offered.
Determining the Right Internet Speed
Some people need more speed and some less, it will depend on the needs of your household. After looking at the plans, you should assess the following situations in your home.
- How many people use the internet at the same time?
- How many devices that use the internet are being operated in the home?
- How do you use the internet?
General browsing, emailing, and accessing social media sites need relatively little speed, such as 1 to 2 Mbps. However, streaming or downloading video and playing online games requires faster speeds of 3Mbps or more. The new 4K for example requires speeds of 25 Mbps which is considerable.
Plus, the more people that are on the internet, the more speed will be needed. Two people watching two streaming videos on two different devices may take upwards of 10 Mbps or more. Once you have assessed your speed needs, the final step is choosing the right plan.
Evening National Broadband Network Speeds
