There will be 42,000 premises covered and prominent parts of the Sunshine Coast covered. Some of the areas that would get data cabling for broad band internet are the Alexandra Headland, Coes Creek, Image Flat, Meridan Plains, Minyama, Nambour, Towen Mountain, Rosemount, Warana and Wurtulla (among many others). The area of Sippy Downs was not part of the initial project, but plans are being undertaken to study the area and include it too.
The plan, which will significantly increase and enhance communication networks in the Sunshine Coast, will be complete by June of 2016 and commenced in December of 2014.
The National Broadband Network will start installing cabling for the fixed line broadband internet, as well as start on the fixed wireless networks. The fixed wireless networks would be operational in nearly 4,000 premises, in the areas of Beerwah, Nambour, and Maleny.
The technology that is being installed by the NBN to all these areas of the Sunshine Coast is ‘fiber to the node’ technology which not only gives lightning fast speeds of 36 mbps for uploads and 91 mbps for downloads, but also is prone to less disruptions in connectivity and is easier and faster to install.
In an area where internet connectivity has been disrupted or not as fast as it should have been, this announcement by the National Broadband Network means that individual users and businesses in the Sunshine Coast will now be able to experience broadband internet in world-class speeds.
Communications by phone or internet data through the broadband internet will take on a whole new meaning now, as increased speeds mean that more people can use VoIP effectively to conduct business or just communicate with their loved ones at a distance. These benefits of broadband, which is super-fast, is not only for communications but also for conducting businesses without any geographical boundaries. It can transform the way small to medium size businesses along the Sunshine Coast conduct business, increasing the economic conditions of the Sunshine Community in the most cost effective way.
The National Broadband Network is being used by nearly 1.2 million homes across the nation. This network is expected to double soon, with new sites being planned and new projects being conceptualised to expand the broadband network in areas that do not have it yet or have broadband that is not as fast as it can be.
The NBN aims at giving consumers broadband internet without chipping into their taxpayers’ dollars too much, and doing it in ways that are faster and more economical.
With the National Broadband Network providing both fixed line and fixed-wireless line services to communities, you may choose if the fixed line services are cost effective or not. The community of the Sunshine Coast are poised to see brighter days ahead.
